Hunting for Vintage in Tokyo

by

Vintage – my love/hate obsession.

I love vintage everything because searching for the nice pieces is so much fun! Especially with some high quality vintage shops spread all over Tokyo. To me, vintage is about timeless pieces, that can be worn in an up-to-date way – effortless and yet melancholic.
And I hate vintage, because I tend to find way too many nice pieces. I especially like vintage accessories, which makes everything even more dramatic. But yet it’s also a lot of fun to just go through all the nice things in all the beautiful shops!

Some days ago, I went on a little vintage hunt, after my friend Mitsu recommended Smith’s Artique to me, a vintage shop which mostly handles vintage Chanel in Daikanyama. It’s located right on the way inbetween 2 of my favorite vintage shops, ViniVini and The Brisk, so I decided to have an afternoon of vintage hunting. The thing is, I spent way too much time in The Brisk and my better half had some shops on his list as well, so I only made it to The Brisk and Smith’s – but I found a little something nevertheless

① THE BRISK

Is a shop with an exquisite selection of vintage clothing – and even though the pictures don’t show it well – their selection is quite on the YSL & Celine heavy side! They also almost always have a great variety of hats and patterned knit sweaters, as well as handbags – here again, YSL & Celine are aplenty!

② Smith’s Artique

I instantly fell in love with this shop. Mitsu told me about it, as she found it on the way over to ViniVini. And I honestly have to say, I don’t know who I always just passed by this gorgeous place! Their selection mainly covers Chanel, but I also saw quite a few Burberry items, as well as a whole rack of mixed high brand clothing. Smith’s instantly made it into my top three vintage shops around Tokyo.

And now my vintage find of the day: A silver Chanel Brooch, engraved with the brands’ lettering on the front and Chanel’s address on the back.

I really liked this one, as I only rarely saw it in shops until now and I think silver is a bit more tricky to find in vintage Chanel accessories… There is so much gold to choose from and just a tiny little portion of silver – and then to find something that’s worth investing in… Anyway, now I finally have a piece that fits with my everyday-jewellery, which is – except for one ring – all silver.

      Ooooh I absolutely know what you mean! I used to be so impatient and I really dislike big shops where you have to go through all the piles of clothing and stuff… and then I found out about all the little select shop like vintage shops

    I’m definitely interested in The Brisk.
    I do love thrifting/searching for vintage stores.
    If I ever did travel, it’s good to know some choice places to go.

    Thank you for the information about the shops. I need to go there some time ^^ Vintage finds are so interesting, because they all seem to tell their own story, – if you know what I mean ^^;
