One of my New Year’s resolutions is to get out of my comfort zone more.
Staying inside the circle of what you know is easy, comfortable and save. Probably some of you know the saying “If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.” – Tony Robbins
And exactly this is what is holding you back! You are missing out on so much that lies behind the things you know, so without constantly pushing yourself to higher goals you won’t be able to advance and improve yourself.
Last year, I have made two big steps out of the comfort zone and into the unknown: quitting my secure job and going back to school. Also, for the first time in my life, I actually came up with a longterm plan of what I want to do, and even though I am proud of all these achievements, I am still very much insecure about myself and I want to change this.
For example, I feel like the hallway in front of my flat is my comfort zone. The only people I have to worry about seeing me having my photos taken are the four other people living on the same floor and so far not one of them has. All was fine for the past year with the occasional attempt of shooting in deserted alleyways. Today’s world is filled with so much pressure regarding beauty and body image and I guess some part of me feels ashamed to stand in a busy street having my photos taken, since I know I am no model in any way – but from now on I have to make myself remember: I don’t want to be a model. I want to be me.
Remembering this is key for me to be able to step out of my comfort zone a bit more, and even though I know it is a long process to get rid of insecurities, I will keep on pushing to become a better me this year!
