rolled around and with it the transition into Fall, all the September Issues, and international Fashion Weeks are about to start! I always like Fall best here in Tokyo, because the temperatures will still be in the summery regions, but without the humidity of Summer! Finally time to sit outside and enjoy the sun with a fresh breeze on your shoulders, rather than sitting by the window with the air condition running on North Pole settings!
Great News first!
I think I mentioned before that I was chosen to compete in YKK’s annual Fastening Awards, and I have wonderful news to spread! All the contestants were to hand in their creations by August 18., but thanks to my jet lag keeping me awake most of the time and to Jen from osharegirl, who saved my bum by filling in to be my model last minute – can we have a moment to admire the incredible job she did as a model ♥ – , I handed in my coat and dress combo and faithfully awaited the 31. of August, when the finalists would be announced.
And to cut things short: I made the cut! So I am under 30 contestants (21 in the apparel section), competing for the grand price and I am still speechless! My first Fashion Contest ever and being picked to actually bring my design to live already seemed honour enough for me! But let’s see what comes next! The fashion shows and judging will be held in early October, so I’ll update you next month!
Family Time ♥
One of the best things I had this Summer was a lot of Family Time! Since I live so far away from my family, I only get to see my dear ones every now and then, but as my family is huge and I need more than my own hands and fingers to only count all my cousins, it rarely happens that I get to meet everyone at once – but this time I was super lucky and saw almost everyone!
I added a few things to my wardrobe the past few days, but among them are this cute Ribbon Blouse by Karl Lagerfeld, two pairs of Jeans, one from Scotch and Soda with embroidered dots to express my inner Yayoi Kusama (sold out online, but here is a similar one), and another embroidered pair of mom-jeans from Top Shop, this white Off-Shoulder Blouse from NA-KD which I saw my sister Claudia rock all Summer long (being the nice older sister, I didn’t steal hers, I bought my own! #copycat) and my beloved Aquazzura Alexa Ballerinas (ON SALE!), which I already showed you!
My highlight of the past month was definitely my visit to the DMM Planets Exhibition which took place on Odaiba, a little artificial island in Tokyo Bay. The installations were put together by art collective teamLab who are famous for their scientific and technological take on wow-ing the masses – and they outdid themselves with what they put together for DMM this time!
A room filled with responsive light strands, interacting with the visitor over movement or control via your smartphone, in another room you’re walking through water up to your knees, encircled by digital fish who burst into colorful flowers, and another room which makes you feel as if you’re floating through a galaxy made of flowers. It was a wonderful experience, and I am so happy my friends and I went just when a typhoon hit the Tokyo region, hence we didn’t have to stand in line, while when I wanted to go a second time with another friend, the tickets were already sold in the early afternoon.
Lately I’ve been trying to transition myself a little towards Fall, and what is the best thing to start with, when the temperatures won’t let you pull out your wool hats and light jackets just yet? Exactly, start with your nails! So I picked up the deep red Raisin’ the Bar from OPI’s recent Infinite Shine collections and am loving it’s glossy, sophisticated color ever since! I will probably go back and forth between this shade and the nudy Do You Take Lei Away!
I also picked up two bottles of Batiste’s scented Dry Shampoo when I was in Germany, as I saw it all over social media lately and dry shampoo is just something you won’t be able to get your hands on in Japan. I picked Marrakech and Oriental and I like both of them so much, I kind of started using them on a daily basis, only for that extra fluffiness and volume dry shampoo gives your hair!
And I am super excited for…
two things this month! First is Fashion’s Night Out happening on September 10. all over Harajuku, Omotesando and Aoyama! I’ll be hitting the shops with some of my dear friends and I’m super excited already!
The second thing I’m excited for is going to Ultra Japan on the 17.! K and I will go only on the first day – and I can’t wait to see Kygo live that day! ♥ Last festival of the season and I’m ready!!
